If you ever thought why doesn't the Postal Service ship wine or beer etc.. through the mail well it has to do with a law that's been in place for what seems like forever. However, that might be about to change. I work for the Postal Service and we are trying to overturn this law so that wineries and other wine direct to consumer businesses will be able to ship with the convenience of the us postal service. We have drafted a bill and it has since cleared its way through the DOJ. Our next step is to get a person on the hill to sponsor this bill and present it on the floor. This is probably the closest we've ever gotten to pushing this bill through and we could use your help. We are hoping that everyone that sees this blog and has a blog of their own will start to publicize the fact that this bill exists and to write their representatives telling them to move on this bill. If anyone would like more information on what the USPS is trying to do, or is interested in writing a letter to support our efforts to the USPS, please feel free to email me at louis.p.derienzo@usps.gov and I will be happy to tell you about what we're up too and what the USPS could do to try and make shipping alcohol safer and less expensive for the wine shipping industry.
